Bangladeshi National and Indian Tout Arrested for Infiltration in Tripura
Agartala, June 07, 2025: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday arrested a Bangladeshi national and an Indian tout at the Agartala railway station for illegal infiltration into Tripura. A specific case has been registered against both individuals.
Acting on a tip-off, GRP officials conducted a surprise operation at the station and detained two suspects. During questioning, both confessed to their involvement in illegal border crossing.
“The arrested Bangladeshi national has been identified as Shyamal Chandra Barman (23), a resident of Gaibandha district in Bangladesh. He was aided by Abhijit Sarkar (32), an Indian tout hailing from Trisha area in Teliamura,” said a senior GRP official.
According to the police, Barman entered India by evading the barbed-wire fencing on the Indo-Bangladesh border with the help of brokers. He admitted that his next destination was Kolkata, and Agartala railway station was being used as a transit point.
“Infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals through illegal means continues to pose a serious challenge in Tripura despite strict surveillance by the Border Security Force (BSF). This arrest highlights the persistent threat and the role of touts who facilitate such activities,” the officer added.
The police have launched further investigation to trace the network involved in cross-border trafficking. Authorities have also emphasized the need for enhanced coordination among security agencies to curb such illegal movements.
