Congress Slams Centre Over Inaction, Demands Parliament Session on Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor Sparks Political Row as Congress Seeks Urgent Deliberation
The political temperature in New Delhi rose sharply on Sunday after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated his party’s demand for a special Parliament session to discuss the recent developments surrounding Operation Sindoor and the terror attack in Pahalgam. Accusing the Centre of inaction, Kharge urged the government to show seriousness similar to Pakistan, which has already convened its Parliament to deliberate on the issue.
Kharge Urges Government to Respect Parliament and Nation
Speaking to reporters, Kharge expressed deep concern over what he called the Modi government’s indifference to a critical matter of national security. He said, “Even Pakistan has taken swift parliamentary action. India must show at least equal seriousness regarding Operation Sindoor.” According to Kharge, when the security of the nation is at stake, silence and delay are unacceptable.
The Congress president stressed that Parliament is the right forum for national dialogue, especially on sensitive issues like Operation Sindoor, which has significant implications for India’s security strategy.
Nation Stands With Armed Forces, Says Congress
While slamming the Centre, Kharge made it clear that his party stands firmly with the Indian armed forces. He called for unity across political lines and urged leaders to avoid politicising military operations. “The entire nation is proud of the armed forces. But giving them the support they deserve includes ensuring transparency and discussion in Parliament,” Kharge said.
He further stated that asking for accountability and discussion does not mean questioning the military. Instead, it ensures democratic responsibility, especially when operations like Operation Sindoor are carried out in sensitive regions like Kashmir.
Comparing with Pakistan: A Strategic Call-Out
In a pointed remark, Kharge noted that Pakistan, despite its internal instability, had convened its Parliament to discuss the regional security situation. “If even Pakistan can act promptly and discuss Operation Sindoor-like developments, why is India’s Parliament silent?” he asked. This comparison, though controversial, was aimed at pushing the Modi government to act more decisively.
The Congress chief’s remarks underline the growing demand for transparency and democratic deliberation on national security actions. He made it clear that avoiding Parliament on matters like Operation Sindoor sets a dangerous precedent.
Congress Questions PM Modi’s Credit-Taking
Kharge also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking undue credit for the armed forces’ swift response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. “Our brave soldiers acted with unmatched courage. But instead of letting their actions speak, the Prime Minister seems more focused on political mileage,” he said.
According to Congress, Operation Sindoor should not be used as a political trophy. The party believes that public interest and national security are better served through cooperative leadership and responsible debate.
Opposition Pushes for Democratic Oversight
As demands intensify, it is clear that the opposition sees Operation Sindoor as more than a military mission—it’s a test of the government’s commitment to democratic norms. With the Parliament’s next session yet to be announced, the Centre now faces mounting pressure from across the political spectrum.
Congress leaders have hinted that if the Centre continues to delay the session, they may consider alternative forms of protest, including reaching out to regional allies for a joint appeal.
Silence Not an Option, Say Analysts
Political analysts believe that the government’s reluctance to discuss Operation Sindoor in Parliament could backfire. In a democracy, transparency and accountability are key pillars, especially in the context of national defence operations. The opposition’s call may resonate with a large section of the public concerned about the lack of clarity and communication from the government.
As Operation Sindoor continues to dominate headlines, the ball is now in the Centre’s court to decide whether it will rise to the occasion or continue to avoid Parliamentary scrutiny.
