Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Boosts Kanwar Yatra Preparations with Unprecedented Measures
New Delhi – As the sacred Kanwar Yatra approaches, scheduled from July 11 to July 21, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a pivotal high-level meeting today at the Delhi Secretariat, signaling an unprecedented push towards ensuring a smooth, comfortable, and dignified pilgrimage for the lakhs of Shiv Bhakts. The meeting, attended by Cabinet Ministers Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra, alongside senior officials from various departments, underscored the Delhi government’s commitment to setting new benchmarks in public service for this revered annual event.
Revolutionizing Kanwar Yatra Preparations with Direct Aid
A cornerstone of this year’s Kanwar Yatra preparations is the groundbreaking decision to provide direct financial assistance to registered Kanwar committees. In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency, funds will now be transferred directly to bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This innovative approach, hailed by CM Gupta as a break from past inefficiencies, ensures that committees receive timely support, ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹10 lakh, depending on the size and duration of their camps. This contrasts sharply with previous systems, which CM Gupta criticized for alleged corruption and mismanagement. “We have broken the tradition of corruption and mismanagement of the previous governments,” stated CM Gupta, emphasizing that her administration is committed to ensuring every rupee reaches its intended purpose: serving the devotees.
Furthermore, in a significant relief to organizing committees, each Kanwar camp will now receive 1200 units of free electricity, coupled with a remarkable 75% reduction in security deposits for meter connections. These measures are designed to alleviate the financial burden on committees, encouraging more participation and enabling better facilities for pilgrims.
Streamlined Permissions and Enhanced Infrastructure for Kanwar Yatra Preparations
The Delhi government has also introduced a single-window clearance system for obtaining permissions to set up Kanwar camps. Overseen by district magistrates, this streamlined process ensures that applications are processed and granted approval within a swift 48 to 72 hours. This efficiency is reflected in the unprecedented number of applications received this year, with 374 registered Kanwar committees already granted permission – a substantial increase from the 170-172 camps set up in 2024. This surge signifies growing confidence among organizing bodies in the government’s supportive framework for Kanwar Yatra preparations.
Beyond financial and administrative reforms, the meeting focused on meticulous logistical planning. Comprehensive arrangements for traffic management, police presence, health services, and sanitation have been thoroughly strengthened at every level. Health teams will be deployed at camps and will coordinate with nearby hospitals to ensure prompt medical assistance for pilgrims.
Welcoming Devotees: A Grand Vision for Kanwar Yatra Preparations
One of the most heartwarming initiatives highlighted by CM Gupta is the installation of ‘Swagat Dwar’ (welcome gates) at all entry points to Delhi bordering Uttar Pradesh. These gates will serve as ceremonial welcome points for the ‘Shiv Bhakts’, complete with flower showers and special cultural programs, underscoring Delhi’s spirit of hospitality and reverence for the pilgrims. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with her cabinet colleagues and members of Parliament and the legislative assembly, will personally be present at these gates to greet the Kanwariyas.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, CM Gupta reiterated her government’s dedication to making the Kanwar Yatra an “opportunity for public service.” She noted the widespread happiness among the public regarding these extensive arrangements. Discussions also included addressing issues faced by Ramlila Sangh members, showcasing the government’s holistic approach to facilitating religious and cultural events across the capital.
Robust Monitoring and Support for Kanwar Yatra Preparations
To ensure seamless execution of these extensive plans, 11-member committees have been established in each of Delhi’s 11 districts. These nodal teams, comprising representatives from all involved departments, will physically inspect all routes taken by the devotees to prevent debris accumulation and ensure overall cleanliness. Ministers Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra, who are integral to the yatra preparations panel, affirmed the government’s commitment, stating that no stone would be left unturned to ensure a comfortable yatra for all.
This proactive and comprehensive approach to Kanwar Yatra preparations under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership marks a new chapter in Delhi’s management of large-scale religious congregations. The focus on direct benefit transfer, free electricity, streamlined permissions, and robust on-ground support reflects a dedication to integrity and service, promising an unparalleled experience for the millions of devotees participating in this sacred journey. The government aims to make the 2025 Kanwar Yatra a model of efficient governance and heartfelt devotion.
