India Vows Relentless Action Against Terrorism Epicentres at SCO Meet in China
New Delhi/Beijing, June 26, 2025 – In a strong and unambiguous message to the international community, India’s Defence Minister declared that the country would not hesitate to strike terrorism epicentres, no matter where they are located. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in China, the Defence Minister emphasized that India will pursue a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and called on SCO nations to adopt a united front against terrorist networks.
India’s Bold Stand on Global Stage Against Terrorism Epicentres
At the prestigious summit attended by defence representatives from key member states, the Defence Minister asserted that terrorism epicentres pose a threat not just to regional but global peace and stability. In a direct yet diplomatically firm tone, he conveyed India’s determination to neutralize any hub that fuels or supports terrorist infrastructure.
“India will not hesitate to act decisively against terrorism epicentres. We believe terrorism in all its forms must be condemned, and those providing safe havens or support must be held accountable,” he said during his address.
This strong position reflects New Delhi’s consistent stand on counterterrorism and reinforces India’s global image as a nation committed to peace and security.
Urging Collective Responsibility Among SCO Nations
The Defence Minister further urged all SCO member countries to take collective responsibility in identifying and dismantling terrorism epicentres. He stressed that double standards in combating terrorism must be avoided, referencing concerns over selective tolerance of extremist ideologies in some parts of the world.
“Selective approaches weaken our fight. No country should shelter terrorists under any excuse. Nations must commit to transparent, verifiable, and irreversible actions against such epicentres,” he added.
This statement indirectly points toward Pakistan, which India has often accused of providing sanctuary to terror groups. However, the speech maintained diplomatic decorum by not naming any country directly.
Focus on Cross-Border Threats and Cyber Terrorism
The Defence Minister also highlighted the rising threat of cross-border terrorism and cyber-enabled radicalization. He called for advanced cooperation among intelligence networks and emphasized the need to use emerging technologies to track and dismantle online recruitment and propaganda by terrorist outfits.
“Modern terrorism epicentres are no longer just physical; they are increasingly digital. We need enhanced cooperation to combat cyber threats and prevent extremist ideologies from spreading,” he noted.
India has been pushing for tighter cybersecurity cooperation within multilateral frameworks like SCO, especially as non-state actors exploit digital channels to radicalize youth across borders.
India’s Growing Role in Regional Security
This address comes at a time when India is steadily asserting itself as a regional security provider. Over the years, the Indian Armed Forces have increased engagements through joint drills, defence diplomacy, and humanitarian efforts across South and Central Asia.
India’s counterterrorism operations have evolved significantly since the Uri and Pulwama attacks, with surgical strikes and air strikes symbolizing its proactive doctrine. The Defence Minister reiterated that India’s armed forces are well-equipped, highly motivated, and ready to eliminate terrorism epicentres wherever they exist.
SCO Members Respond Positively
Delegates from other member states reportedly acknowledged India’s stance and the need for stronger cooperation. Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan shared concerns over growing instability in the region, especially with recent security concerns in Afghanistan.
A joint communique is expected to be issued highlighting SCO’s shared commitment to fight terrorism and maintain regional harmony. India has proposed structured dialogues and joint training mechanisms among SCO forces to identify and dismantle known and emerging terrorism epicentres.
India’s Counterterrorism Message Resounds Globally
India’s firm declaration at the SCO meet sends a message not only to hostile forces but also to the global community. With its growing diplomatic reach and international support, India is positioning itself as a leader in the global fight against terrorism.
Observers believe this speech marks a defining moment in India’s counterterrorism diplomacy, further cementing its moral and strategic stance against terrorism epicentres.
