The highlight of the visit was the inauguration and foundation-laying of 28 developmental projects worth over ₹5,900 crore, with some sources estimating the total value at ₹10,000 crore. These initiatives span critical sectors, ensuring holistic growth for Siwan and other parts of Bihar.

Water Supply and Sanitation: A Leap Toward Cleanliness

One of the cornerstone developmental projects is the focus on water supply and sanitation. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹3,000 crore, aimed at providing clean and safe drinking water to households across various towns in Bihar. Additionally, six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange initiative, valued at over ₹1,800 crore, were inaugurated. These STPs are designed to reduce pollution in the Ganga River, aligning with the Prime Minister’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. These efforts will not only improve public health but also enhance the quality of life for Bihar’s residents.

Powering Progress with Battery Energy Storage Systems

In a significant boost to Bihar’s energy infrastructure, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to be installed across 15 grid substations, including Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, and Bettiah. This initiative will enable the state to store electricity and supply it back to the grid during peak demand, reducing the need to purchase power at high rates. The BESS project is expected to benefit consumers by stabilizing electricity costs and ensuring a reliable power supply, a critical component of Bihar’s developmental projects.

Railways: Enhancing Connectivity with Vande Bharat and New Lines

Railway infrastructure received a major push with the inauguration of the Vaishali-Deoria railway line, valued at over ₹400 crore, and the launch of a new train service on this route. Additionally, PM Modi flagged off the Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, which will connect north Bihar via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah. This high-speed train is set to revolutionize travel, offering faster and more comfortable connectivity for commuters. These railway developmental projects are expected to boost tourism, trade, and economic activity in the region.

Housing and Exports: Empowering Communities

The Prime Minister also released the first installment of funds to over 53,600 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), enabling them to build their homes. During the “Grih Pravesh” ceremony, house keys were handed over to more than 6,600 beneficiaries, marking a milestone in providing affordable housing. Furthermore, PM Modi flagged off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant for export to Guinea, showcasing Bihar’s growing role in the “Make in India” initiative. This achievement highlights how developmental projects are positioning Bihar as a hub for global exports.

Political Context: A Vision for a Developed Bihar

The timing of PM Modi’s visit, ahead of Bihar’s upcoming Assembly elections, underscores its political significance. The BJP-JD(U) alliance is leveraging these developmental projects to strengthen its position against the opposition INDIA bloc, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). During his speech, PM Modi criticized the RJD and Congress for their past governance, accusing them of fostering “jungle raj” and neglecting Bihar’s progress. He emphasized that the double-engine government is committed to inclusive growth and restoring Bihar’s pride as a developed state.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar echoed this sentiment, highlighting the progress made since the BJP-JD(U) alliance came to power. The developmental projects inaugurated in Siwan are seen as a continuation of this vision, addressing long-standing issues like poverty, infrastructure deficits, and lack of connectivity.

Why These Developmental Projects Matter

The developmental projects launched in Siwan are more than just infrastructure initiatives; they represent a transformative vision for Bihar. Access to clean water, reliable electricity, modern transportation, and affordable housing are fundamental to improving the quality of life and fostering economic growth. By addressing these core areas, the government is laying the groundwork for sustainable development that benefits both urban and rural communities.

The focus on environmental sustainability through the Namami Gange STPs and the BESS project reflects a forward-thinking approach to balancing growth with ecological responsibility. Similarly, the railway and housing initiatives are empowering individuals and communities, creating opportunities for economic mobility and social upliftment.

Looking Ahead: Bihar’s Path to Prosperity

PM Modi’s visit to Siwan marks his fifth trip to Bihar in 2025, signaling the Central government’s sustained focus on the state’s development. As Bihar prepares for its Assembly elections, these developmental projects serve as a reminder of the progress made and the potential for further growth. The enthusiasm of the people, coupled with the tangible impact of these initiatives, paints an optimistic picture for Bihar’s future.

The double-engine government’s commitment to Bihar’s all-round development is evident in the scale and diversity of these projects. From clean water to high-speed trains, Siwan’s transformation is a microcosm of the broader vision for a prosperous Bihar. As PM Modi stated in a post on X, “The double-engine government is committed to the all-round development of Bihar. Today, I am very happy to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth thousands of crores of rupees from Siwan.”
