A high-level delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently visited the Asarambari Assembly Constituency in Tripura’s Khowai district to assess the aftermath of a violent assault on their party workers. This visit followed a distressing incident where BJP members were attacked while watching Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. The delegation, comprised of ministers, MLAs, and members of district councils, condemned the incident and expressed their deep concern over the recurring instances of Tripura political violence.
The delegation members, who met with the injured workers, alleged that supporters of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) were responsible for the unprovoked attack. Several workers sustained injuries, with some requiring hospitalization. The shocking nature of this Tripura political violence has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape.
Senior BJP leader Rampada Jamatia spoke out against the incident, claiming it was a targeted assault orchestrated by individuals who previously aligned with CPIM before joining the Tipra Motha Party. Jamatia characterized the situation as a “tribal versus tribal” conflict, highlighting the escalating tensions in the region. He urgently called upon the Central Government, specifically Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, to intervene and put an end to this cycle of regional hostility and Tripura political violence.
Jamatia drew a parallel to similar aggression faced from the IPFT back in 2018, suggesting a pattern of recurring violence in the state’s political arena. He stated that such targeted acts of Tripura political violence are unacceptable and require immediate attention from the highest levels of government.
The delegation also pointed fingers at supporters of TMP MLA and Minister Animesh Debbarma, alleging their direct involvement in the assault. They emphasized that a thorough investigation is necessary to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions and to prevent further incidents of Tripura political violence.
Minister Santana Chakma expressed her outrage over the “unprovoked attack,” stating that the party would not tolerate such acts and that those responsible would be held accountable. She affirmed the party’s commitment to protesting this and any other instances of Tripura political violence through peaceful and democratic means, maintaining a stance of non-violence in the face of aggression.
Former MP Rebati Tripura also joined in denouncing the incident, calling for unity and peace in the region. The collective voice of the delegation underscored the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for a resolution to this Tripura political violence.
To conclude their visit, the delegation met with Randitya Das, the Superintendent of Police for the Khowai District. During this meeting, they formally demanded swift legal action against the individuals responsible for the assault, seeking justice for the injured party workers and a definitive end to the threat of Tripura political violence.
The party has assured the injured workers and their families of its unwavering support, both morally and logistically, throughout this difficult time. This gesture aims to demonstrate the BJP’s solidarity with its members and its resolve to combat the prevailing atmosphere of Tripura political violence.
The community awaits the response from both the state and central governments to see what measures will be taken to address this alarming rise in Tripura political violence and ensure the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.
