Tripura Achieves Milestone in Reducing School Dropout Rates, Outperforms National Average

Reducing School Dropout

Agartala, June 03, 2025: Tripura has made notable progress in reducing student dropout rates across primary, upper primary and secondary levels, outpacing national averages on all major parameters, state Education department officials announced on Tuesday.

According to official data, the dropout rate at the primary level in Tripura fell sharply to 0.5% in 2023-24, down from 1.4% in 2022-23. This is well below the national average of 1.9%. At the upper primary level, the state recorded a decline from 5.9% to 4.1%, outperforming the national average of 5.2%.

The most significant progress was seen at the secondary level, where the dropout rate dropped from 17.9% to 10.4% — substantially better than the national average of 14.1%.

“These figures highlight the state’s sustained efforts to promote inclusive and quality education,” said a senior official from the state education department. The official credited the achievement to a combination of well-implemented initiatives, including enhanced student tracking, improved community involvement, fortified mid-day meal schemes, and upgraded school infrastructure.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the education portfolio, praised the outcome, stating, “Tripura’s commitment to equitable access to education is delivering tangible results. We are determined to maintain this momentum and ensure that no child is left behind.”
