Tripura Champions Organic Farming Under Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has reiterated the state’s commitment to organic farming, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainable agriculture. Speaking at the launch of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan held in Bishramganj, Sepahijala district, Dr. Saha outlined the significant progress Tripura has made in embracing organic farming and eco-friendly agricultural practices.
“We are currently cultivating nearly 5,500 hectares under natural and organic farming, echoing the Prime Minister’s vision for a sustainable and environmentally responsible agricultural sector,” said Dr. Saha. He emphasized the importance of adopting long-term, sustainable farming methods to ensure food security and economic stability for farmers.
Digital Krishi Mission Powers Organic Farming with AI
The event also served as a platform to promote the Digital Krishi Mission-2024, an initiative jointly developed by the state government, NITI Aayog, and the Union Ministry of Agriculture. This program integrates artificial intelligence to provide customized crop advisories, helping farmers make data-driven decisions to increase yield while continuing the shift toward organic farming.
“Through AI-based solutions, we are empowering our farmers to adopt smart practices that complement organic farming and enhance productivity,” Dr. Saha explained. He cited the initiative as a pivotal step in modernizing agriculture while remaining true to nature-friendly practices.
State Government Drives Organic Farming with Financial Support
Highlighting Tripura’s financial commitment to the agricultural sector, Dr. Saha pointed to a remarkable increase in farmers’ incomes—from ₹6,580 in 2015-16 to ₹13,590 in 2024-25. Over 4.72 lakh farmers have benefited from various government schemes promoting organic farming and sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Saha mentioned that under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, farmers in the state have received ₹843.64 crore. In addition, ₹10.63 crore was disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and ₹2,200 crore has been made available through the Kisan Credit Card initiative. These measures ensure that organic farming is not just a sustainable choice but also an economically viable one.
Furthermore, ₹443 crore has been directly transferred to farmers through Minimum Support Price (MSP) paddy procurement, along with the distribution of 2.06 lakh soil health cards. Subsidies worth ₹204 crore for agricultural machinery have also been provided to facilitate organic farming practices.
Tripura’s Organic Farming Push Linked to Economic Growth
Dr. Saha linked the state’s economic achievements with its agricultural reforms, noting that Tripura now ranks second in India for both State GST collection and per capita income. “Thanks to PM Modi’s visionary leadership, our integrated approach to agriculture and the economy is yielding real results,” he said.
He also referenced his recent participation in the NDA Chief Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, where he voiced support for PM Modi’s directive to intensify awareness campaigns aimed at promoting organic farming, innovation, and farmer self-reliance.
Krishi Raths Flagged Off to Promote Organic Farming Statewide
The event concluded with the ceremonial launch of Krishi Raths, mobile agricultural outreach vehicles designed to raise awareness about sustainable and organic farming practices throughout Tripura. These mobile units will serve as on-the-ground resources to educate and assist farmers in transitioning to greener agricultural methods.
Present at the event were key dignitaries including Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath, Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta, Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy, District Magistrate Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Agriculture Director P.B. Jamatia, and Horticulture Director Dipak Kumar Das.
Their collective presence underscored the collaborative efforts across departments to make organic farming a cornerstone of Tripura’s agricultural future.
Conclusion: Tripura’s Green Revolution Gains Momentum
Tripura’s bold steps in promoting organic farming under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan demonstrate a firm commitment to environmental sustainability and farmer prosperity. With strong leadership, data-driven technologies, and financial support, the state is paving the way for a resilient, self-reliant agricultural sector aligned with national goals.
