Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma Calls for Collective Environmental Action on World Environment Day
Observing World Environment Day, Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma made a heartfelt appeal to the public to actively participate in environmental conservation, stressing the urgent need for collective responsibility in safeguarding nature.
“World Environment Day is a powerful reminder for all of us to protect our surroundings,” said Debbarma. “If we fail to maintain a clean, green, and healthy environment, the very foundation of human civilisation will be at risk.”
Speaking at a programme organised by the Tripura Pollution Control Board, the minister underlined the significance of forest conservation and called for reducing the use of plastic and non-biodegradable items. He urged every citizen to make tree plantation a regular habit and to adopt eco-friendly practices in daily life.
“It is not just the government’s job to protect the environment,” he noted. “Each one of us has a role to play. To ensure a healthy Tripura, we must take care of our forests and catchment areas. Their degradation contributes to the recurring problem of floods.”
On the occasion, an awareness rally was held in Agartala, drawing the participation of students, environmental enthusiasts, and members of the public. The rally aimed to spread awareness about sustainable living and the pressing threats posed by environmental degradation.
Concluding his address, Debbarma called upon the people to take a pledge to plant trees, reduce plastic consumption, and work together to preserve the state’s natural beauty.
World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5, serves as a call to action for governments, communities, and individuals to unite in defense of the planet.
