Tripura Police Confiscates 7,800 Yaba Tablets, Pistol & Bullets at Dharmanagar; One Arrested in Late-Night
Agartala, May 30, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Dharmanagar police recovered a large quantity of drugs and illegal arms from the Sonarerbasa area in the early hours of Friday, following a tip-off.
Acting on secret information, a team from Dharmanagar police station, led by the SDPO and Officer-in-Charge, launched a special operation around 3 AM. The target was the residence of Helal Mia in Sonarerbasa, suspected of storing illegal narcotics.
During the raid, police recovered 7,800 Yaba tablets, a pistol and four live bullets from the premises. Helal Mia’s wife, Mamon Begum, was arrested on the spot and taken to Dharmanagar police station for further questioning.
Superintendent of Police for North Tripura district, Avinash Rai briefed the media later in the day. “Based on specific intelligence inputs, we conducted a successful operation. The recovery of such a large quantity of drugs and arms indicates a serious threat, which we are determined to eliminate,” he said.
Roy also assured continued action against narcotics. “This is part of our ongoing crackdown on drug-related activities. Such operations will continue with full intensity to keep our society safe from the menace of drugs,” he added.
The police are currently investigating further links and possible accomplices connected to the seized contraband.
