Tripura Rainfall Woes: CM Dr Manik Saha Asks Officials to Monitor Situation Closely; Red Alert Issued for Two Districts
Agartala, May 30, 2025: With Tripura witnessing continuous rainfall over the past two days and forecasts predicting further downpour, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has directed disaster management officials to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.
Dr. Saha stated that he has already held discussions with the administration and is likely to chair a high-level meeting either today or tomorrow to review the preparedness across departments. “We are taking all necessary steps to deal with any emergency that may arise,” he said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for North Tripura and Unakoti districts for Friday, warning of “extremely heavy rainfall” exceeding 20 cm. An orange alert has been sounded for the remaining districts. According to IMD forecasts, rainfall is expected to continue until at least June 2 across several parts of the state.
The relentless rain has led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and a rise in water levels of key rivers, including the Howrah River. The administration has already been put on alert following the IMD’s warning of “heavy to very heavy rainfall” across the region.
Disaster management teams, including trained volunteers equipped with necessary gear, have been deployed in several areas, officials confirmed. In Jirania, two houses were reported damaged due to the ongoing rainfall.
“We are closely monitoring the situation with all necessary preparations in place,” said an official from the disaster management authority, adding that response teams are working actively on the ground.
