A Bright Future for Tripura Tourism: CM Saha Unveils Ambitious Plans

Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty are set to receive a major boost as the state government intensifies its efforts to develop the tourism industry. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha recently underscored this commitment, emphasizing that a thriving tourism sector is pivotal for the state’s socio-economic advancement and will significantly contribute to its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

The Foundation of Flourishing Tripura Tourism: 51 Shakti Peetha Park

A cornerstone of this ambitious vision is the upcoming 51 Shakti Peetha Park in Banduwar, Udaipur, within the Gomati district. The Chief Minister recently laid the foundation stone for this spiritual landmark, an initiative designed to attract pilgrims and tourists from across the globe. This expansive project, spanning 15 acres, will feature replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas, offering a unique opportunity for devotees to experience these sacred sites in one location.

• Project Scale: The 51 Shakti Peetha Park is a substantial undertaking, with an estimated investment of ₹97.70 crore. This project is receiving financial assistance from the central government, highlighting its national importance.
• World-Class Amenities for Tripura Tourism: Beyond the spiritual replicas, the park is planned to include state-of-the-art facilities such as Tripura’s first-ever glass skywalk bridge, the largest Nataraja statue in the state, a 400-seat amphitheater, an interpretation center, a cafeteria, and cottages for accommodation, designed to manage up to 7,000 pilgrims at a time.
• Spiritual and Economic Impetus: Chief Minister Saha highlighted that the park will not only promote spiritual tourism but also act as a powerful engine for economic growth, generating direct and indirect employment opportunities and boosting local businesses.

Prime Minister’s Vision and Tripura Tourism Development

Chief Minister Saha reiterated that the state’s tourism development aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing at least one world-class tourist center in every state. The Prime Minister’s emphasis on developing iconic tourism hubs serves as a guiding principle for Tripura’s initiatives. The government is also leveraging the ‘Act East Policy’ to foster record development in the Northeast, with tourism playing a crucial role.

Broader Initiatives for Enhanced Tripura Tourism

Beyond the Shakti Peetha Park, the government is undertaking several other projects to strengthen Tripura Tourism infrastructure and offerings:

• ADB Funding: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned ₹18 crore for the development of Kasbeswari Kali Bari in Sepahijala and is expected to fund a facelift project for the Chaturdash Devta temple in West Tripura. Further, a significant loan of ₹179 crore from the ADB is also contributing to the development of various tourism sites across the state.
• Improved Connectivity: Recognizing the link between transport and tourism, the government is focusing on developing road, rail, and air connectivity. This improved infrastructure will benefit not only tourists but also workers associated with the transport industry.
• Eco-Tourism and Wildlife: Emphasis is also being placed on eco-tourism, with efforts to maintain and develop sanctuaries like Roya, Trishna, and Sepahijala. Modern accommodation facilities have been constructed at Tepania Eco Park, Narkelkunja, and Chabimura to attract nature enthusiasts.
• Safety and Security: To ensure a trouble-free visit for tourists, the government is committed to providing enhanced security. Plans include the appointment of over 6,000 special executives to assist the state force in maintaining law and order, alongside the deployment of tourist police at key sites.
• Cultural Preservation: The Chief Minister also emphasized that new initiatives will showcase not just the spiritual significance but also the diverse tribal culture, art, and heritage of Tripura.

A Holistic Approach to Development

Chief Minister Manik Saha affirmed the government’s commitment to the overall development of the state, with priority areas including infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education, and increasing the income of rural populations.
