Tripura’s Electricity Corporation Marks World Environment Day with Strong Push Against Plastic Pollution

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), observed World Environment Day with a spirited awareness programme at its corporate office. This year’s global theme, “End Plastic Pollution,” guided the day’s events, which emphasized collective responsibility for protecting the environment.

The event was inaugurated by State Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS. Also in attendance were Transport Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury, TSECL Managing Director Bishwajit Basu, Finance Director Sarvjit Singh Dogra, General Manager Swapan Debbarma, and BEE’s Nodal Officer Seema Das.

Power Secretary Abhishek Singh urged citizens to adopt sustainable habits. “Joining the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and opting for electric vehicles can significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions,” he said.

Highlighting a bold internal initiative, MD Biswajit Basu announced, “We aim to make the corporate office completely plastic-free within two months. This will set a new benchmark in environmental responsibility across Tripura.”

Finance Director Dogra stressed the urgency of environmental awareness. “Unchecked deforestation, single-use plastics, and rising pollution levels threaten our future. Immediate action is vital to avoid irreversible consequences,” he remarked.

As part of the celebration, saplings of fruit-bearing, medicinal, and flowering plants were distributed among city residents. The day concluded with a vibrant rally showcasing electric vehicles, promoting eco-friendly transportation. The rally culminated at Vivekananda Maidan.

Similar awareness drives, including tree plantation and cleanliness campaigns, were simultaneously conducted in all divisions and sub-divisions of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.

The corporation’s comprehensive observance of World Environment Day reflects a growing commitment to fostering a cleaner, greener Tripura.
