Operation Sindoor

India Stands Resolute: PM Modi’s Stern Warning on Operation Sindoor Echoes in Parliament

In a powerful and unequivocal address during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a resounding warning to Pakistan, asserting that “Operation Sindoor” is still underway and any “dussahas” (misadventure) by the neighbouring country would be met with a “karara javab” (befitting reply). The Prime Minister’s statements came amidst intense debate following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s decisive response.

Operation Sindoor: A Defining Moment for India’s Resolve

  • Swift Retaliation: Prime Minister Modi highlighted that India’s armed forces avenged the Pahalgam attack within 22 minutes through “Operation Sindoor”. This swift and precise action targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
  • Targeted Strikes: The operation saw precision strikes on nine terror infrastructure targets, including camps in Bahawalpur and Muridke, effectively reducing them to rubble. PM Modi noted that many of Pakistan’s airbases are “still in ICU” following these strikes.
  • A “New Normal” in Counter-Terrorism: The Prime Minister emphasized that India has established a “new normal” where terrorists and their masterminds can no longer sleep peacefully, knowing that India will “come, strike and leave” (Bharat ayega aur maar kar jayega). This signifies India’s zero-tolerance stance on cross-border terrorism.

Unyielding Stance Against Misadventure: The Core of Operation Sindoor

  • Direct Warning to Pakistan: PM Modi’s stern warning made it clear that “Operation Sindoor” has not concluded but is paused, with a strong message that any future provocation from Pakistan will invite an even more intense and decisive response.
  • No Nuclear Blackmail: India has firmly called out Pakistan’s nuclear threats, asserting that such blackmail tactics will no longer work. India demonstrated its capability to respond effectively without succumbing to external pressure.
  • Global Support for India’s Actions: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed Parliament that out of 193 nations, only three supported Pakistan during “Operation Sindoor”, while the rest stood firmly with India, recognizing its right to self-defence. No global leader urged India to halt its operation.

Diplomatic Outreach and Strategic Clarity Post-Operation Sindoor

  • US Vice President’s Warning: PM Modi revealed that US Vice President JD Vance had attempted to contact him on May 9 to warn of an impending large-scale Pakistani attack. Modi’s response was resolute: if Pakistan intended to attack, it would incur heavy costs, and India would respond with an even larger strike.
  • Refuting Mediation Claims: Both PM Modi and EAM Jaishankar refuted claims of any third-party mediation, including from President Donald Trump, in the de-escalation of hostilities. India maintained that the request to cease hostilities came directly from Pakistan via the DGMO channel.
  • Indus Waters Treaty in Abeyance: As a part of the post-attack response, the Indus Waters Treaty has been put in abeyance until Pakistan ceases its support for terrorism, sending a clear message that “blood and water cannot flow together.”

Opposition’s Role and National Unity during Operation Sindoor

  • Criticism of Opposition: Prime Minister Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of undermining the morale of the armed forces and becoming “dependent on Pakistan for issues.” He pointed out that the opposition’s statements often mirrored those of Pakistan, drawing laughter from the country.
  • Call for Unity: Despite the political sparring, the underlying message from the government remained a call for national unity on matters of national security. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also emphasized that the success of “Operation Sindoor” should be the focus, not minor criticisms.
  • Armed Forces’ Free Hand: PM Modi asserted that the armed forces were given a “free hand” to decide “when, where, and how” to retaliate, showcasing India’s decisive political will in confronting terrorism.

The comprehensive debate and the Prime Minister’s strong remarks underscore India’s transformed approach to national security and its unwavering resolve in safeguarding its sovereignty against cross-border terrorism. “Operation Sindoor” stands as a testament to India’s enhanced capabilities and its determination to strike decisively against threats.
